Yokohama Sogo Department Store

With a total floor space of 184,940 square meters, including 75,000 sq. m. of sales floor, Yokohama Sogo is the world’s largest department store. It stocks just about everything you could possibly ever wish to buy. For example, the food market, which is on level B1, is enormous and offers groceries from just about every country on earth. Even if you do not intend to buy anything it is worth visiting this area just to see what other people eat.

On the same level, there are dozens of stalls selling prepared meals, from the simple rice ball to top of the line French or Chinese delicacies. And there is also a large wine cellar and well-stocked liquor store. As you might expect, you are not short of options in other departments either. You can find most of the world’s top brands in just about any category: clothes, jewelry, cosmetics, tableware, furniture, etc. The sixth floor houses the Sogo Museum of Art, which holds exhibitions of local and international artists. The Hiraki Bijutsukan is on the same floor and this gallery displays ukiyoe, or Japanese Woodblock Prints.
